Abstract

The paper examines Teimuraz Batonishvili's poem The Destruction of Troada, the first Georgian poetic work on the Trojan War in relation to Guido de Columna’s The History of the Destruction of Troy for the first time, based on its Georgian translation (manuscript S:5. Georgian National Centre of Manuscripts). Columna’s literary work has been proposed to be the original source of this poem though without any comparative analysis ever held. The research made evident that Columna’s text appears to be the original source of Teimuraz Batonishvili’s poem following the original consistently, but with big cuts. One can find some innovations in Batonishvili’s poem as well.
