Abstract
The present paper is concerned with the semantic study of Verfall details in Th. Mann's novel “Buddenbrooks” and its Georgian translation. The study of the Verfall details including the title of the novel meaning “fissure”, “crack” (i.e. decline of the Buddenbrooks family) has demonstrated that the Georgian translation of these details only partially correspond to the original text.
Georgian recipients in 12 cases are unable to comprehend the meaning of the title of the novel Of course, this circumstance greatly weakens the sounding of Verfall of an old burgher family in translated text.
