Abstract

Film adaptations are taking an important place in the film industry. First of all, the paper focused on the overview of the literary film adaptation, the relationship between literature and film, which is a complex phenomenon, with a number of differences and similarities from the linguistic, cultural, historical, social point of view.
The film „Effi Briest“ based on the novel of the same name by Theodor Fontane is selected as the material for analysis. In the process of transforming a literary text into a film, time, story line, place of action, content, language and narrative structure is transformed.
