At various times, Georgians living and working abroad for political purposes played a major role in guiding and shaping Georgian literary processes. Such was the "Georgian Liberation League", which was for­med in 1892 by students living in Warsaw. Shio Aragvispireli, who was in exile, was imprisoned for nine months, during which time he wrote the novella "Memory." In the story, the writer shows us how a single childhood "harmless" pastime can influence a person's personal and spiritual transformation. By under­stan­ding the value of the work created by Shio Aragvispireli while in exile, the writer's work and the cultural and literary significance of his work as an emigrant writer will be discussed.
