Abstract

In the 19th century, there were widespread pandemics of plague and cholera and, unfortunately, Georgia was unable to avoid it. The newspapers published information about epidemics in different countries and warned the population about the proposed danger.

The issue of pandemics has become the source of inspiration even for Georgian writers. The variety of genres (documentary, lyrical-epical, allegorical) was noticeable in their creations. In this respect, Georgian classical writers deserve particular attention.

The article describes publicistic, documentary-memoires, and lyrical creations on the topic of pandemics by Al. Orbeliani, Ilia Chavchavadze, Akaki Tsereteli and Iakob Gogebashvili.
