Abstract

„Blindness“ is a dystopian novel by the famous Portuguese Nobel Prize-winning writer Jose Saramago. In the text, like other post-apocalyptic texts, an indefinite chronotope is conditional on the time and place of the development of the action. In the novel, the future of the world is suddenly changed by an unusual pandemic, people go blind without any pre-existing symptoms, theauthorities start isolating the contact persons and placing them in quarantine spaces. With biblical allusions, symbols and archetypal models, the author tries to present the faces of the characters as well as the author’s
intention and the main idea of the text.
